As one of her first actions in office, Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs announced the creation of the Governor’s Office of Resiliency — uniting water, land use, transportation and energy policy areas under one umbrella – with the purpose of providing leadership that addresses the compounding impacts to Arizona’s water, natural resources and effects of climate change.
The Governor’s Office of Resiliency recently received a grant from the federal government to draft a plan to reduce harmful emissions and pollution in Arizona. They have partnered with Arizona State University to obtain input from jurisdictions and citizens in diverse communities across the state to inform a plan that will guide the state in addressing climate change. A priority is hearing from residents in underserved, rural and tribal communities.
Arizona State University has partnered with Coconino County to host two community town halls to better understand county citizens’ thoughts, concerns, and ideas related to climate change topics such as electric vehicles, forest management and water conservation.
The two focus groups will take place on Tuesday, Dec. 12. The first focus group will be at Highlands Fire Station on Old Munds Highway from noon to 1:30 p.m. The second group meeting will be in the evening at the Summit Fire Station on Cosnino Road from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
