Arizona’s major arts organizations are receiving a $3.8 million boost to expand their reach and adapt to a post-pandemic world. The Flinn Foundation has awarded the funding over three years to 18 groups, including the Arizona Theatre Company and the Mesa Arts Center.
The grants aim to help arts groups navigate the challenges of a changing landscape, according to Tammy McLeod, CEO and president of the Flinn Foundation. These organizations face new hurdles as they recover from the pandemic’s impact.
Audience numbers for indoor arts events dropped during COVID-19, and full recovery hasn’t yet been achieved. McLeod noted that some parts of the audience may never return due to factors like geographic spread and the effort required to attend events.
Additionally, the end of federal pandemic aid and shifting demographics are contributing to the challenges. With these changes, McLeod emphasized the need for arts groups to adjust their strategies for long-term sustainability.
The Flinn Foundation’s support is designed to help these organizations recalibrate and continue growing, ensuring they remain a vibrant part of Arizona’s cultural scene.
