FAYETTE COUNTY, Ga. — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating an officer-involved shooting in Fayetteville. Fayetteville police officials told Channel 2 Action News that officers received reports of a domestic dispute at the intersection of Beauregard Boulevard and Paces Drive.
According to the investigation, a man and woman were arguing in the back seat of a vehicle that was parked at the location. The person who called 911 told police the man got out of the car and walked away. He added that the man was armed. The caller told police he was driving the couple at the time of the dispute.
When officers located the man, they began to speak with him. At some point during the discussion, there was an altercation with police, and an officer fired a shot from his service weapon, striking the man.
“The suspect didn’t fire their weapon. They were armed and had a weapon, but they didn’t discharge it. Our officer discharged their weapon,” said Captain Chad Myers.
Police said the man was transported to an Atlanta area hospital. Police aren’t sure of his condition. The policy is to place the officer on paid administrative leave. The shooting remains under investigation.
