Father of Fort Smith Teen Charged with Murder Arrested for Tampering with Evidence in Son’s Case

LITTLE ROCK (KATV) — The father of a Fort Smith teen charged for the murder of another teen has been arrested. The father, Antonio Castillo, was arrested Wednesday night, our content partner 40/29 News reported.

Castillo is facing two charges, tampering with physical evidence and hindering apprehension. No bond has been set and Castillo’s trial is scheduled for Monday. Castillo’s son, Connor, is accused of shooting and killing 15-year-old Bailey Smith on Wednesday. Connor is also accused of shooting Smith’s 12-year-old brother.

Fort Smith police were sent to the 1400 block of N. 36th St. regarding a shooting incident. They arrived to find Smith and his younger brother suffering from gunshot wounds. The two were taken to a local hospital for treatment, where Smith was later pronounced dead. His brother suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Witnesses told detectives that Connor had gone with other minors to Smith’s girlfriend’s house so that one of them could fight the girl, according to the prosecutor’s news release. According to 40/29 News, family and friends said that Smith tried to stop the fight when he and his brother were shot.
