ELOY, Ariz. — A pilot was killed after their small plane crashed in Eloy, Arizona on Friday, about 65 miles southeast of Phoenix, according to officials with the Eloy Police Department.
A Skystar Kitfox Series 5 airplane went down just before 1:30 p.m. south of the Eloy Municipal Airport, officials said. The pilot was the only person on board, according to officials with the Eloy Police Department.
According to the NTSB, the aircraft was identified as a single-engine fixed-wing Skystar Kitfox Series 5 airplane.
“The pilot, who was the sole occupant of the aircraft, succumbed to the crash. Out of respect for the family, the pilot’s name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin,” stated EPD Sgt. Jeremy Sammons. “We extend our deepest sympathies to the family and friends affected by this loss. Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.”
Police say they are working in close coordination with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
